We offer a
fourth year rural psychiatry track approved by ACGME.
Residents interested in rural psychiatry practice may want
to consider this as a fourth-year elective in our program.
Our residents have the option of doing some rotations or
their entire fourth year in Marquette, Michigan. Marquette
is approximately 400 miles from Lansing in Michigan's
upper peninsula. The "U.P." has a
population of about 350,000. Residents live in
Marquette, the largest city with a population of 50,000
and rotate with psychiatrists at Marquette General
Hospital. Marquette General (http://www.mgh.org/uphec/) is the
tertiary care institution for the U.P. and has inpatient
adult, child and adolescent psychiatry, outpatient
psychiatry, and addiction treatment services.
Residents also travel with attendings to somewhat
isolated rural community mental health centers. They
attend seminars given in East Lansing via two-way
interactive television.
