MSU Psychiatry Residency Training Program
Resident Selection Criteria
- The MSU Psychiatry Residency Program is governed by the rules of the Residency Review Committee for Psychiatry, an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) institution created for the accreditation and review of US Psychiatry Residency Programs.
- The MSU Psychiatry Residency Program also abides by the guidelines for Psychiatry Residency Education established by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). These guidelines are the accreditation standards for osteopathic residencies in the US.
- The MSU Psychiatry Residency Review Committee and its subgroup the Residency Selection Committee supervises the selection of all psychiatric residents in the MSU program.
- Applicants must have a permanent visa or be a US citizen in order to qualify for residency training in the MSU Psychiatry Residency program
- Only unsanctioned individuals or entities will be employed or contracted. The term “unsanctioned” refers to those individuals or entities not included on the Office of Inspector General
(OIG) Exclusion List or General Service Administration (GSA) List of Parties Excluded from Federal Programs.
- Applicant Eligibility Criteria:
- Graduation from a US or Canadian medical school accredited by the Liaison
Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
- Graduation from a US osteopathic medical school accredited by the American
Osteopathic Association
- Graduation from a medical school outside the
US or Canada with the following qualifications:
1) A
current fully valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign
Medical Graduate
2) A full and unrestricted license to
practice medicine in the US
- USMLE or COMLEX Score 75+
- Passing of Clinical Skills Assessment Exam
- A full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US
- Federal DEA license
- Grade point average 3.0+
- Aptitude for psychiatry as demonstrated in personal statements
- Written and oral command of the English Language (personal statement,
application, letters of recommendation)
- Volunteer or previous professional psychiatry experience in the US within the past 2 years
- Evidence of a commitment to psychiatry as a career
- Evidence of participation in a training experience within the past 2 years
- Applicants shall participate in the both the American Osteopathic Association (DO) Resident Match as well as the National Resident (MD) Matching Program if applicable.
Applications received after December 1st will be given secondary consideration.
