Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) program.  All applications, transcripts, Dean’s letters, board scores, and reference letters will be processed through ERAS. To apply to our program, please review the resident selection criteria and contact your medical school Dean’s office or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

A personal interview is required and will be arranged after the application and reference letters are received and accepted by our Residency Admission Committee.

We participate in both the osteopathic and allopathic match programs. For the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), the Michigan State University Psychiatry Residency Program match number is: 2436 41 Psychiatry C.  The number for the D.O. match is 41068.

The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Applications are accepted from graduates of LCME and AOA approved medical schools.

Residents are appointed as instructors at Michigan State University. The faculty benefit plan is provided which includes health insurance, dental coverage, disability insurance, malpractice insurance travel and death benefits. The department provides a $600.00 book and travel reimbursement for 1st year residents and a $1000.00 book and travel reimbursement for 2nd-4th year residents. Vacation days are accumulated according to the program year of July through June. Days must be used yearly.
