Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Clerkship
(PSC 608)

The major focus of the clerkship experience is to develop skills in interviewing, diagnosis and clinical judgment as well as acquire factual knowledge in the area of psychiatry, all of which will train the physician to work with a variety of medical patients.

Students work in a variety of settings (i.e. inpatient, outpatient, emergency) and are assigned patients who have been identified as having psychiatric problems as well as patients with other medical problems in which there is an emotional component involved.

The psychiatry clerkship will build upon the knowledge and experience base developed in the preclinical curriculum.  Through supervision, readings, seminars, clinical rounds and case study exercises, students will develop the basic knowledge and skills necessary to complete the clerkship in psychiatry.
